10. What does the term "executive law" mean?

This is a new term used to describe the body of law understood and practiced by attorneys who specialize in meeting the unique needs of executives.

In the same way that "elder law" describes the practice of attorneys who specialize in assisting those in our aging population, "executive law" is about lawyers counseling and representing executives in transition and in trouble. 

An attorney who practices executive law has the experience to guide a CFO who is exiting her employment and wants or has a severance package. 

The lawyer who practices executive law is skilled in helping the Vice-President, Human Resources to evaluate and negotiate his employment agreement when going into a new company. 

A lawyer who practices executive law can competently advise executives on workplace challenges, including preparations to leave and establish a competing business. An executive law attorney understands the ins and outs of releases, trade secrets, covenants not to compete, covenants of non-interference, no-raiding agreements, stock options, change of control agreements, and hundreds of common severance and employment agreement provisions, including confidentiality and non-disparagement clauses.
